And the award goes to...

I received a fantastic email over the weekend. An email that informed me that Unforgiving Plains received the honor of being named a Finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards (NIEA).

Yep, this is some pretty crazy exciting news. News that has me doing a happy dance and then some. Sure, I didn't win, but Finalist is a pretty big achievement in and of itself, and this is the second award that Unforgiving Plains has been in the running for. I'm always striving to improve my writing and craft, so to have my writing validated as good by an award not once, but twice, has me feeling very excited about what the future holds.

Being a writer can be a very singular and lonely job. If I did this for fame and fortune I would have given up a couple of years ago, about when I realized that making money at this is a lot harder than I thought. And even though it's not about money or recognition, it's still so wonderful to receive an award like this.

I'm excited to see what the future will bring for me and my writing, and I want to thank each and every one of you for believing in me and taking this journey with me. You make it feel like writing a book is a community effort. My characters, books, and stories no longer just belong to me, and man, is that a special feeling.
