The Next Big Thing Blog Hop!

Welcome to the NEXT BIG THING Blog Hop. What is a blog hop? Basically, it’s a way for readers to discover authors new to them. I hope you'll find new-to-you authors whose works you enjoy. On this stop on the blog hop, you'll find a bit of information on me and one of my books and links to three other authors you can explore!

My gratitude to fellow author, M.L. Ryan, for inviting me to participate in this event. You can click the following links to learn more about M.L. and her books.

M.L. Ryan’s Next Big Thing: Her Website Her books:

In this blog hop, my fellow authors and I, in our respective blogs, have answered ten questions about our current book or work-in-progress (giving you a sneak peek). We've also included some behind-the-scenes information about how and why we write what we write--the characters, inspirations, plotting and other choices we make. I hope you enjoy it!

Please feel free to comment and share your thoughts and questions. Here is my Next Big Thing!

1: What is the working title of your book? Heart Like an Ocean.

2: Where did the idea come from for the book? I was sitting out at the ranch on a hot afternoon and watching the horses in the pasture and my imagination starting running away. I envisioned a girl running to the only friend she had in the world, from there brainstorming began and it became historical fiction with an arranged marriage, swashbuckling pirates and love triangles.

3: What genre does your book come under? Historical Romance.

4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? I'm hesitant to put faces to the names because I like people to come up with their own image, but here's what is sort of in my mind. Not perfect, but I leave the rest to your imagination.

Daniella Alonso as Senona Montez

Jamie Bamber as Brant Foxton

Danny Pino as Caton Amador

Rosamund Pike as Catherine Marshall

5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? In a society where she doesn't belong, Senona Montez, a strong-willed and free-spirited woman refuses to follow the path expected of a Don's only child.

6: Is your book self-published, published by an independent publisher, or represented by an agency? I have a fantastic independent publisher: 5 Prince Publishing.

7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? Heart Like an Ocean took me two years of off and on writing to finish the first draft of over 100k words. I don't take that long to write anymore, nor do I think first drafts need to be so long!

8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? I'm not sure I've come across any other books like this. Not to say they aren't out there, because by no means do I think my idea is completely original, but I haven't read any.

9: Who or what inspired you to write this book? I thought I answered this question already... oh well. A big part of it was my love of horses, but the main thing was the feeling of not fitting in, of not reaching people's standards that I felt as a teen, and I think many teens struggle with. It's a hard time of discovery and when I felt the need to express that it came out as a historical romance.

10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? Heart Like an Ocean isn't just a romance. It follows Senona Montez as she discovers who she is and where she belongs in the world. It's very much a coming of age story that I think many readers will be able to empathize with.

Below you will find authors who will be joining me virtually, via blog, next Wednesday. Please be sure to bookmark their sites, and add them to your calendars for updates on their upcoming books! Happy Writing and Reading!
