Reflecting on #2012 and looking forward to #2013

2012 has been an amazing year. In the past three years my life has changed drastically but I think that 2012 might have held some of the biggest changes of all. Dec 31st, 2011, I spent New Years Eve in the hospital and gave birth to my son at 6:17PM after 29 hours of labour. And boy, those hours of labour do nothing to prepare you for parenthood. Becoming a parent is probably the biggest learning curve anyone can experience. I am fortunate enough to have a very easy going and forgiving son, who is today celebrating his first birthday. Happy Birthday Jasper :)

With the birth of my son came many changes in life but the most important would be that I started writing again. My writing had been lax and almost nonexistent since 2009 but with new found structure and purpose in my life I found how important writing is to me again.

In April my husband, Kyle, encouraged me to pursue publication so I hired an editor and sent my manuscript of about 5 years in the making to her. It was a nerve wracking decision but I received great feedback and in May I began working on the revisions.

In June we sold our house and moved in with Kyle's parents and in July we broke ground on our next house which we hope to move into in Feb or March of 2013.

In September of 2012 I received my first publishing contract and I signed with 5 Prince Publishing. Heart like an Ocean is scheduled to be released early February 2013.

A few days ago I announced that we are expecting our second child to be born in the summer of 2013 :)

Now we near the end of the year. I've met many wonderful people in my journey this past year, many wonderful authors whom I consider friends and I'm sure 2013 will bring many more amazing things for me. Now the least of which will be the PUBLICATION of my first novel and, the birth of a second child :)

I also have some changes planned for the blog starting in 2013. Like Teaser Tuesdays for little snippets from whatever book I'm working on.  I'm also hoping to incorporate more guests posts and some interviews along with the reviews I already do.

With the closing of 2012 comes the end of my little vacation. I've been taking a bit of a break from writing because first trimester is basically kicking my butt. But you can't be a writer if you don't write, so it's time for that to end. I am going to bring down my daily expectations a bit until the first trimester exhaustion passes and instead of the 2,000 words I averaged per day I'm hoping for 500.

Thank You all for a wonderful 2012 and I can't wait to see what 2013 has in store for me. Keep your eyes open tomorrow for the first Teaser Tuesday featuring Heart Like an Ocean.
