The title says it all. NaNoWriMo is just around the corner. Currently on the website it is telling me it begins in 2 days and 9 hours! And I haven't even begun brainstorming beyond a general premise! And I probably won't until Thursday morning. As I mentioned last week my old writing buddy is joining me for NaNo this year! And I'm working on convincing a couple other friends ;) Hoping to get a little group going. I'm also hoping I haven't bitten off more than I can chew by going through a crazy writing marathon, and also trying to turn it into a social event. Not only do I want my own little writing group, I hope to hit up a few official NaNo meetings. So friends, if I'm off the grid for November I apologize.
Although the goal for NaNo is to complete a 50,000 word manuscript, which totals to roughly 1700 words per day, I am hoping to complete a 60,000 word manuscript. This would have me keeping up with my 2,000 words a day pace I've set with Unforgiving Plains for the last couple weeks.
So, how is Unforgiving Plains going? Well, if you're keeping up with me on Facebook and with the wordcount bar to the right of this post, you'll see I am right on track to be at 40,000 words by Wednesday night. That's half way through my rough draft! My plan is to set Unforgiving Plains aside for the month of November but I'm not sure I'll be able to stay away for that long. So you may find me sneaking in a couple hundred words here and there.
Now, at this point you may be wondering what in the world NaNoWriMo is, besides gibberish. It stands for National Novel Writing Month and this will be the third year I'm participating. The first year I quit after 10,000 words. The second year I won, and last year I decided not to participate as I had a baby on the way. I have high hopes for this year and see no reason in the world why I can't succeed (except burning out. That's a pretty legit reason). http://nanowrimo.org/en/about
I think my family members and friends are starting to wonder where I've disappeared to since basically every spare minute I have is spent writing. I love it though. The weather has been cold, snowy and beautiful. I've been hiding away in the front sitting room at my in-laws and writing there. Here's a view from my writing spot the other day. :)
What else? Hmmm The edits of Heart Like an Ocean are moving along really well. My editor and I seem to be on the same page as far as what the book should be, and thankfully no major re-writing has been needed . . . yet.
Don't forget to follow me on Facebook :) Everyday I post a little snippet from that day's writing session and I plan on continuing with that through NaNoWriMo.
